Aboriginal people have the oldest living culture on Earth. I am blessed with the richest and most resilient blood in my veins. I draw from my connection to both worlds that I walk in – the Aboriginal world and the non-Aboriginal world. My art reflects my spiritual connection to country and its waterways as well as the infinite Dreaming stories in the sky.
I offer an expansive array of living culture through original pieces, prints and artefacts along with corporate and community services and commissions. I welcome you to the place where old world meets new … this is my Dreaming.
The language of art can be very personal and powerful, that is the responsibility I have every time I pick up my paintbrush – to connect to the person and client no matter who they are and to evoke a cultural experience. I aim to establish a clear understanding of the client’s outline and wishes before thoughtfully customising a piece that will hopefully resonate with them for years to come.
I share with you my mother and daughter. As our ancestors have done through countless generations, we continue to pass our culture on. This is the way of Aboriginal people.
Jan Mattrow, Executive Officer, Melbourne East Disability Advocacy (MEDA)
Simone provided a wonderful piece of art work for Melbourne East Disability Advocacy. We have utilised the art work on our Disability Royal Commission postcard that we are distributing within our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Kitty Gordon, Learning and Development Officer, Victorian Auditor-General's Office
Simone developed an outstanding and remarkable art piece which we are using in our RAP. From the first moment I communicated with Simone, I sensed that her approach and energy aligned to what we desired to have created for our very first RAP.
Shahaan Murray, Managing Lawyer - Elder Abuse, Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC)
“Simone is a thoughtful artist, who produced a piece that is both ‘on brief’ and from the heart. Her artwork is not only thought-provoking, textural and beautiful, it is a connection to elders, community and country.”
Kylie McCaw, CSV-VCAT-Koorie Support, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
We were fortunate enough to commission Simone for an artwork on canvas, the broad brief being an example of how Aboriginal people experience VCAT- the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Troy Williamson, Koori Family Engagement Coordinator, Coroners Support Services, Coroners Court Victoria
Simone Thomson has been able to create a piece that is beyond our thoughts, her professionalism and ability to understand the space and take the time needed to feel her work, not just to prepare a piece.
Ben Davies, Director of Communications, Eastern Health
Simone, we sincerely thank you for the wonderful role you have played in delivering our inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan. Right from the outset your warm and professional nature provided us with a lot of confidence in delivering the brief we required.
Your understanding and passion for the local culture has been brought to life in a beautiful piece of art that adorns our RAP.
We thank you for the way you engaged with us throughout this process and the finished piece is testament to the incredible artist that you are.
