Songlines Print

Our traditional land knowledge and way of life are sung to Country; recorded in language to the earth, sky and waterways as sacred details of mapping. Journey tracks, trade routes and borders are embedded into the land and remain deeply entrenched within our environment still today. We sing as we step through the bushland, mountains and the rusty red sands of the desert to help us remember where we are going, just as our ancestors have done for many thousands of years. We sing to saltwater Country; we sing to the freshwater Country.

We sing. Country sings back. We listen.

When we are connected to the trees and the bush and the earth and sand, we can feel it beneath our feet and between our toes. We can see the messages in our environment showing us clear pathways, showing us clear songlines and trade routes.

My connection to country

My inspiration

My people are river people, we are spiritually connected to the Dhungala (the Murray River) and the Birrarung (the Yarra River). I grew up around these rivers, I grew up between Cummergunga on Yorta-Yorta country and at the foothills of the Dandenongs at Corranderk on Woiwurrung land. These are the resting places of my ancestors.
